Frank Smolders started work as a medical photographer at the Diaconessenhuis in Leiden. Previously Frank worked as a professional photographer including general press and studio based roles. After moving into medical photography he found great satisfaction in making a contribution to the care of patients involved in his new role.
Presently Frank works as a photography coordinator for technical ophthalmic assistants and ophthalmologists in the Groningen Academic Centre and prior to this he spent 17 years at the VU Medical Centre in Amsterdam and the Leiden University Medical Centre.

Jeroen grimbergen

Picture

Board Member

Jeroen Grimbergen trained at the School for Photography in The Hague and initially worked as a medical photographer.
After the transition from film to digital photography the demand for general medical photography dropped rapidly. The exception to this trend was ophthalmic photography and imaging.
After additional training as a technical ophthalmic assistant  (TOA) Jeroen has worked for the past 20 years at St. Antonius Hospital as an ophthalmic “All Rounder”.
Digital Imaging now gives us the opportunity integrate the written and imaging information into a single patient record. For the past 1.5 years Jeroen has been part of a project to implement a new electronic patient record (Epic). As the project is nearing completion he enjoys being able to return to seeing the patients in the outpatient clinic.

Patricia van hilten

Board Member

After my training as a Technical Ophthalmic Assistant and medical ophthalmologist at UMC Utrecht I worked at Bartimeus in Doorn/Zeist then at the Erasmus Medical Centre and Het Oogziekenhuis both in Rotterdam. At Barttimeus I was a TOA and optometrist involved in visual research with patients having intellectual disabilities, neurological and psychiatric disorders.
I have been a guest lecturer and examiner for more than 10 years at the Dutch HealthTec Academy in Utrecht where I am involved with TOA training.
I also work as an independent trainer/consultant with a special interest in ophthalmic imaging techniques.
The technology constantly changes with advances in OCT and adaptive optics giving a whole new world of information.
I am a past chairman of the Ophthalmic Photographer Netherlands OFN. I am also a member of the  UK Ophthalmic Imaging Association OIA and the US Ophthalmic Photographers Society OPS. In order to keep up to date and broden my knowledge I regularly visit national and international meetings. Most recently I have visited Moorfields Eye Hosptal in London and Harvard in Boston.
I like to use my extensive experience to train others and to contribute to the advancement of ophthalmic imaging practice in the Netherlands.

HANNEKE KLINGENBERG
Picture
SECRETARY

I am Hanneke: TOA, cataract assistant, eye photographer, mother of two children, partner of my beloved and semi-caregiver of my parents.
I started working in 2003 as an Optometrist in training for Stichting Oogheelkunde Rijswijk, location Warmond. Once a week I went with my ophthalmologist to see if we could perform PDT laser. We only did FAG of the macula. So there was no real learning to photograph.
Since February 2008 I have been working as a TOA for Rijnstate Hospital. At the time we had a photographer from Rotterdam who came once a week and ran a program together with the ophthalmologists. I was occasionally allowed to watch and take pictures. But I didn't really have an idea of what to do yet.
In 2011, the OFN organised a workshop Fundus and FAG photography. Two of my colleagues and I took the course with two others. Since then I have been present at every symposium of the OFN and have experienced the conviviality every time. Apparently, I've said sensible things from time to time, which has led the board to ask me to join the board.
I recently got to call myself second secretary of the association.
I am looking forward to helping organize the various programs.

We look forward to seeing you at our meetings,

Hanneke Klingenberg-Hoogstede
